Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique keycase to celebrate the brand's centenary. Made from Dark Stained Burr Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it comes with a flying 'B' paperweight, a set of bently keys and a brochure that features never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre imagery.

It is the perfect gift to greet a new owner of their opulent vehicle.

Aesthetics

Bentley is a brand that takes its aesthetics seriously. This is evident in the precise placement of its quilting and the use of leather made from cattle by-products, the wood from sustainably-managed forests, and the innovative patterns of its levers. As you approach a vehicle like the Continental GT W12, its exquisite design is revealed through carefully selected lighting.

The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever made. The rear tonneau of Continental GT, for example it was the largest piece of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

Design

Each key takes about two days to create. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, sewed to seal, and polished to create a high-end result. It is light and compact and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is reminiscent of the Volkswagen Phaeton's huge car key, however it feels more substantial and luxurious.

It also has Secure-A-Key, which helps prevent theft of keys with no key. This device is inserted into the remote-control key fob and disables it after a few minutes of inactivity, preventing thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices that are able to unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley's unique design is a reflection of the values of the company that include high-quality craftsmanship engineering expertise and cutting-edge technologies. Personalisation

Bentley's Mulliner division allows customers to design their own car. Customers sit at a set of images, referred to "mood stations" and select a series of photos - from scenic landscapes to sporting events that are inspiring to them. Each time a selection is made, the pattern that emerges will reveal the model, color and style preferences for the custom Bentley.

The configuration that is created is stored on individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys which are presented to the guests in a hand-crafted key case. The keys can be fitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised welcome lamps that illuminate the way of the entrance door, and display the owner's name or logo as they approach the car.

Bentley estimates that it takes around 500 man-hours to construct and build the Mulsanne. One of the main reasons for that lengthy effort is a deliberate decision to embrace the latest technology. The Crewe factory workers don't employ a machine to place perfectly-matched leather seats. Instead they do it by hand. Instead of using the car's built-in sensors to guide it to parallel and perpendicular parking spots the drivers must perform the task by hand.

Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization abilities with a unique Mulsanne W.O. Edition, that pays tribute to founder William Osler Bentley. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays homage to founder William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited-edition cars include a special key that displays a small portion of the 1930 8 Litre's crankshaft.
