French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

Combining form and function, French-door refrigerators offer stylish double doors that open up to a spacious fridge up top and freezer drawer below. Special features like through-the-door dispensers, higher-end ice machines and adjustable flex drawers make them stand out from the rest.

We consulted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the best one. We looked at the capacity of storage, layout, and energy efficiency, among other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As the name suggests, GE's Profile series targets consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge features in their kitchen. This refrigerator is packed with these, from an inside-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a clever water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator is more, I'd expect better.

This fridge is a great choice, despite the blip. It comes with a huge freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth french door fridge against wall door fridges, and it can hold a decent amount of frozen food when as compared to similar models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on par for the size of a french door fridge freezer with water and ice dispenser door fridge that costs this much. It has a decent sized freezer in the left side. However it's not the most spacious one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments for an individual storage solution. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is good-looking, too. The LED lighting is a nice feature and the inside storage bins have an additional shelf that folds up beneath itself so that you can store items that are tall. The drawers include temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, however I found their plastic textured coatings a bit rough on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a full suite of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices and allows you to control your refrigerator from anywhere in the globe. It also has many options for customization. It will also send notifications when the door is left unlocked as well as when the fridge or freezer requires defrosting, and when the filter has to be changed.

It would be great it GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill which is a feature available in a handful of GE refrigerators that allow users to choose the amount of cups they wish to dispense. The fridge shows a countdown to display how much water is left but it's not as useful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen Bosch's French-door refrigerator looks seamless and is an eye-catching piece. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer, and two compressors for preserving food. The Ice maker is among the best we've ever tested, and it produces a pyramid-shaped form of ice with a low use of water. This fridge is perfect for a single household or kitchenette that needs an elegant design and top of the highest quality food preservation.

This fridge was rated the best in our Refrigerators Test due to a variety of reasons. Its freezer temperatures remained constant at just above 0°F and never changed more than a fraction - this is crucial to prevent the risk of a freezer burn. The fridge's refrigerator section also performed well, reaching the desired initial set temperature within an hour and maintaining the temperature constant over the course of our testing.

Bosch is known for its high-end appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance, with the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app allows you to control and monitor the refrigerator remotely using your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is pricey and has great features and capabilities at a reasonable cost.

It is important to know the limitations of the fridge. It is possible to be creative with tall objects because the fridge is limited in shelf space. Also, the shelves are not sprillproof and can be easily damaged or stained by sharp objects. It is easy to take out the trays in the fridge however, you must clean them frequently to prevent mold growth.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who need lots of space within an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge features an ordinary French-door design with gallon-sized door bins at each door, two rows of shelves for spill-capture, and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right side can be folded to provide more space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer for deli and an inside water dispenser.

One of the nice aspects of this refrigerator is that the ice maker is in the freezer, making it easy to transfer frozen ice to the fridge for use when needed. The freezer features thoughtful design elements, for instance, sliding drawers to help you better organize the position of your items. It comes with a large bin to store frozen food items, and a separate one for ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting, and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a good way to control and monitor your refrigerator, particularly if you're away from home.

But while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't add to the overall performance of the refrigerator. The refrigerator took longer to chill food and defrost it than other models we tried. This could be due to its bigger capacity.

Another issue with the doors of this refrigerator. The handles that are sunken allow smaller people to open them from the bottom. However taller people have a hard time closing them without slamming them. It would have been much better if they came with a front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good option for those looking to combine the advantages of a fridge with a French door with an efficient layout. It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It's also a bit less than the best counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which helps make it a desirable choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth smallest french door fridge Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an french door integrated fridge door fridge that doesn't cost you a fortune and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a great choice. It's a minimalist design that's not as visually striking as other models, but it has enough features to make it a good choice. Its most notable feature is the temperature adjustable drawer, which helps keep foods such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large water dispenser as well as a good Ice machine that is fast.

The "Chill Drawer", which sits above the two crisper bins, is a excellent feature. This drawer lets you divert some of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, meaning you can put away food items that require extra attention. You can adjust this feature using an adjustable slider that is located just in the middle of the drawer. You can also use this to set a general cooling level for the entire fridge, but I've noticed that adjusting the general settings tends be more effective than specific ones.

In my tests, I discovered that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent across different parts of the fridge. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary much from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a solid performance, but isn't quite at the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be paired with a smart thermostat to obtain more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of gray-bodied stainless with a "smudge proof" finish. It is capable of removing streaks and fingerprints, even compared to glossy stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
