The shooter shoots the black 8 ball without designating the pocket to opposite team members or the match referee in advance. The shooter deliberately pockets the opponent's balls while shooting the 8 ball. When a roquet is made, the player may pick up their ball and place it in contact with the roqueted ball. During a turn, a player may earn extra shots in two ways. The two rule sets differ in some details regarding the penalties for fouls. The rules of blackball differ from standard eight-ball in numerous ways, including the handling of fouls, which may give the opponent two shots, racking (the 8 ball, not the apex ball, goes on the spot), selection of which group of balls will be shot by which player, handling of frozen balls and snookers, and many other details. If you’re a somewhat experienced player, you may be able to tell just by shooting a few balls. Your friends or family members may not want to venture into the cold garage to play a game of pool with you.

But, all this begs the question of whether it’s advisable to put a pool table in a garage. For example, placing a wood table in a room with high humidity could lead to warping over time, and extreme temperature changes can affect the table’s playability and longevity. Over time, high humidity can warp and crack wood. This is typically done with a heavy-duty wood frame and large legs. Smaller 6-foot (1.8 m) tables are sometimes used in places where a larger table would be too large. In all versions, players of all ages and genders compete on equal terms and are ranked together. After this, players elect at the start of each turn which of their two balls to play for the duration of that turn. The first four turns must be taken to play the four balls onto the lawn from one of two "baulk lines" defined as one yard into the lawn on the western half of the south boundary and the eastern half of the north boundary. In all forms of croquet, individual players or teams take turns to strike the balls, scoring points by striking them through a hoop.
