Types of UPVC Door Handles

Lever/Lever

This is also the principle behind the levers you find in a variety of everyday tools, such as crowbars, fishing rods claws for hammers and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your car.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles, have levers on each side to operate the multipoint locks. These come in many variations and finishes and are suitable for a range of materials including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the inner and exterior door, with spindles and screws included. They are available in unhanded and handed versions to suit different users.

They are commonly used in new builds and can be fitted to replace existing doors made of upvc. They are typically operated by lifting up the levers to throw all of the multipoint locks and turning the key to close / unlock. They provide additional security compared to standard lever door handles as the locking operation is only accessible by entering the door with a key unless the door is locked.

They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are a reasonable option to provide extra home security. The only drawback is that they don't offer the same level of security as a cylinder bolt, and therefore don't stop external access in the event that the victorian door handle has been left open.

In certain situations the snib button can cause problems, particularly if you have older locks or doors that are distorted. If the snib is used in a mistake or by a person who isn't accustomed to it, the door can slam shut and lock you out. You can usually gain entry by knocking on the door frame or letterbox. However this isn't a good idea.

This is achieved with an external handle that is shaped like a pad that locks into the gap between the handle and the lock case.

This kind of handle is made for uPVC doors with multipoint locks that operate using split spindle technology. This type of operation requires that the internal lever brompton carry handle and the external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. It is a simple modification to the existing uPVC handles, but it could also require a change to the lock case or a new set of handles to accommodate this additional function.
