3 Wheel Double Buggy

A great option for parents who want to take their kids off-road the Fox 5 is a true all-terrain baby stroller. Its suspension is impressive and large, puncture proof wheels.

Our tester Claire was impressed by the neat packaging that was easy to open and found it one of the fastest and most simple pieces of baby gear to put together. She took it to explore the rough terrain and was extremely pleased with its performance.

Seats

The majority of 3 wheel double buggies start life as single pushchairs, but some can be converted to take a second seat or carrycot with adapters (these are usually more common in tandem buggies). There are also models allow you to include a ride-onboard for older children who wish to walk but still need some assistance.

Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for an ultra-lightweight 3 wheel buggy option that is perfect for urban streets. It is easy to maneuver and has a large basket that is full of storage. It can accommodate twins as young as birth and accommodate two car seats as well as a carrycot and seat. The seats are required to face forwards and there's not enough space for a shopping bag underneath and you'll need a backpack for that.

Mountain Buggy Duet will be the best choice if you enjoy off-road driving. It is a side by side with the most compact footprint of any double buggy available. This makes it easier to squeeze through doors that are narrow and on public transport and enables you to climb up and down kerbs without much trouble. It can be used in 30 seating configurations, and includes an integrated ride-on board that can be used for older kids who prefer walking plus a 'cinema seating' mode which raises the back seat for better visibility.

The phil&teds dots are fantastic single buggys that are easily modified to accommodate two (or three!) different configurations. This is especially helpful for parents who have children in a car. The frame can be affixed to a wedgie that allows for the best lie-flat position. Also, car seat adapters that fit a wide range of brands.

Suspension

The quality of the suspension on a triple buggy is vital to how easy it will be for you and your baby/s to push. A smooth ride is vital as babies can feel every bump on the road, particularly if it's in rough terrain such as grass or dirt roads. Some models come with locking front tires that help maneuver and get over obstacles like curbs.

Certain models come with air-filled tyres that are ideal for all-terrain riding, but they can be prone punctures. Make sure you keep a spare set of tyres in the trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres, designed to withstand bumps and can be less prone to punctures but you might find them to be a bit stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back if you decide to jog.

MFM reviewer Kath took the Urban Glide 2 through its tests with her newborn and 3 years old, and found that it coped really well on tricky terrain: "it navigated effortlessly over grass and bumpy pavements dirt tracks, cobbles and cobbles with ease and was easy to manoeuvre around corners and get up and down kerbs. Folding

A three-wheel double buggy folds quite well to be stored.
