How to Fix a Loose Door Hinge

Repairing a broken door hinge can be a doable job for most homeowners. If the screw holes have been stripped and will not hold screws, you may need to use dowels and wood glue in order to reinstall the hinge.

If you discover that the hinges are still loose, you can try adding the thicker shim of the hinge between the hinge plate and the mounting surface to add a little extra space. You can also take off the hinge pin, then pound it down with a heavy hammer to tighten it, or install a new hinge. Cleaning the Hinges
