How to Replace an audi replacement key for audi key cost uk [https://hangoutshelp.net/User/rayplough43] G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are various connector pins, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read around 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant drop in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is connected, but still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I don't know what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. It is easy to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to know both the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or an unfire when in the gear. If you have any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and needs replacing. The good thing is that they are very affordable and easily accessible, especially if you're looking at a Bosch unit which is what ours are. Alternatively, GM's version of this part is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi a3 key replacement since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slow the engine is turning. If this sensor fails, it could disrupt the performance of the transmission, as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, and also timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these points. This is the same across the replacement audi keys 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find good ones in wrecking yards.Ford-New.png
