UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time, the handles on your doors will wear down and need to be changed. When doing this it is crucial that the new handles match the critical dimensions of the previous handle.

This ensures that the quality of finish and performance over time. The lever that is sprung can be shortened to fit the widest range of locks. This is particularly useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is further back from the door. A shorter lever is an ideal choice for doors that have latches that can be activated by the thumb turn inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently to the lever type handles found on most doors. The handle can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are typically used on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a variety of finishes & variations.

The handles have been tested to at least 200 000 cycles and are available in various finishes, including white window handles Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is compliant with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for its intended use.

All of the UPVC handle lever pad styles are supplied with screws and a spindle that allow them to be put on any new or existing uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixation centres permit a larger handle, which is usually an advantage when replacing an old or damaged multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers come with springs, which eliminate the issue of handles for doors that slide out of the horizontal position when not in use.

It is crucial to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement may also be called 'handle centre or cylinder centre'. It is important for matching the correct handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size, you'll have to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you require for your doors. These are usually square or round with an internal lever and an external push pad.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of window handles of doors. The cylinder lock operates by using a key that unlocks the cylinder's casing. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned to the pins in the lock, and permit them to turn the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is vital. It's dependent on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. For example, external doors require a higher security cylinder, while doors inside can be secured with a standard cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that can increase security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.

A euro cylinder must be measured accurately to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the other end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this while the lock is in place, but in the event that this is not possible, you may remove it to take measurements. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon might be susceptible to attacks like lock snapping, so it is important that it is not too long.

The majority of modern cylinders have been designed with bump and anti-drill features that are built into their design. These are designed to reduce the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction. This helps deflect the attack and protect your doors.

There are also cylinders that are designed to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is much quicker and less difficult than gaining access through a multipoint lock and leaves no evidence of a burglary, which can hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits inside the base of your door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution that returns your multipoint lock handles to their normal position after use. Previously a lot of these types of handle did not have a spring built into them, and as a result, they are more likely to slide or drop when the locking mechanism is disengaged. This simple part is the best solution to solve this issue. It also helps prevent your door from getting stuck in either the open or closed position, as they are difficult to close manually.

The spring cassettes were made to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They won't work with unsprung handles, and you will have to cut a hole into your backplate in order for them to fit. They are supplied in a single unit. They feature a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
