WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item upgrading level, however they'll always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be bought by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which will display an item's preview at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade items costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via various methods that are both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from an entirely different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the type or gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item level Upgrade such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade items level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one usage and it's crucial to use them wisely. It is Best item upgrade to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
