In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. Check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I get zero Ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not certain what to do, as i think i've pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, Audi car key Case and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.
