WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The Item Level upgrade upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with several new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain item upgrading level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies even if those items come from a different set of equipment.

The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item upgrader kit level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they have only one purpose. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
