It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. 3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some extra cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the amount of dirt they are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture.
