Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The stats of an item can be improved through upgrading it, also referred to as "upping". Each upgrade increment increases the stat linearly.

Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain a level gauge for each of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales with their rarity and item level.

Upgrade components

An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can boost the effectiveness of your weapons and armor. This can be achieved by a variety of methods, including by using upgrade components or by increasing the rarity or mark level. A lot of items can be reforged to boost their value.

Upgradable items can be found throughout the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. Upgrade components are the main way to upgrade equipment. These are items that can be inserted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with upgrade slots, and most require a certain upgrade level. Some upgrade components provide specific bonuses, while others offer a general bonus.

There are a variety of upgrade components available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments, can be placed on any equipment and provide smaller bonuses than equipment-specific upgrades. Glyphs can be placed in gathering tools, and provide a variety of bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to providing extra crafting materials.

Select the item in your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen that shows the expected stats after the upgrade, along with any materials or components required. The Upgrade button at the bottom will read Blocked if you do not have enough of either.

The amount of upgrade components required for a given item upgrader kit can be seen in the upper-right corner of the window for upgrading. The cost of upgrading increases with the level of upgrade and rarity, however it can be reduced through a variety of methods, such as buying upgrades from a vendor or trading them with other players.

Most weapons can be upgraded by an upgrade to a prefix like an insignia, or a rune, and many can be upgraded with suffix upgrades. These upgrades can be used to add an adjective to the item's name, such as "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".

Glyphs

Glyphs are a powerful instrument for communicating visual information. They animate in order to grab the attention of the viewer and stimulate curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language and makes them more effective in transmitting a linguistic barrier-crossing message. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, thereby increasing retention of the message.

Each glyph increases a stat's value by a certain range. This is shown on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This is not the actual amount at which the glyph will increase a stat, but the maximum amount it is able to do so. The value of the glyph is contingent on the tier as well as the quality of the item that you are in awe of.

Most upgrade components inserted into items can't be repaired or replaced without dismantling the gear in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. If, however, you have a rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your gear, you can move it to a different piece equipment by utilizing the Upgrade Glyphs context menu in the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you want to remove a glyph from a piece of you must salvage it with an Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item where the glyph is installed will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be salvaged by removing the glyph fragments.

When you remove an item after adding a glyph, the shards that are part of the glyph will disappear. You can also apply the glyph to your equipment to give it an extra benefit. For example, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly instead of all at one time. This is beneficial for players who take a lot damage from enemies but do not want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens let players change the affixes of their weapons and equipment and can be found in a variety of ways, including in mistery boxes or as a rare drop from skulled creatures, or even from killing bosses. Each reroll provides the player with an affix randomly chosen and generally better than the one they had prior to. Reroll tokens can be used to boost weapon stats to cause more damage or bonuses.

Rerolled items don't appear in the menu of item upgrades, but they can be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button, which changes the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, therefore higher-level items are more useful to recycle than lower-level ones.

In addition to reroll tokens, players can use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the weapon traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls are based on a % chance of a weapon's traits. If it rolls higher, then the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower the weapon remains as is. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.

Rerolls are a great option to upgrade an item, but users must be aware that it could reduce the overall ilvl the weapon by the number of rerolls used to increase the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This effect of lowering is most effective for ring items and Diadems that don't have competing ilvl-raising options.

The Reroll system has been criticized by players as being too expensive and it's more equitable to let players pay for it with money or food items that would allow players to modify their builds without spending too much time and effort. The developers have no plans to offer paid rerolls in this stage of the game's development. Instead, they plan to add a race change potion in the future.

Leveling

There are a variety of ways to increase the level of an upgrade for an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount which boosts the upgrade value of the stat. The second is to boost the upgrade effect which increases the healing or damage of a specific stat. Finally there is the possibility to upgrade the base item to a more powerful upgrade type. After this the new item will maintain its iLevel but it will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded type of item.

When you upgrade items it is essential to keep in mind that upgrades are not guaranteed. Most of the time the chance of a better roll will be derived from glyphs, but there are also chances for more or unique rolls. Additionally the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the item type which means that when you upgrade a unique or rare item to an exceptional item type you has a chance to achieve an increased iLevel.

Upgrades to items can be costly especially when you're upgrading an item of equipment from a standard to the legendary track. The price will be based on the item level upgrade's iLevel base and the number of upgrade levels it offers. Certain upgrade tracks require crests to reach the next level.

If you're lucky the upgraded item will reach the maximum level on its upgrade track and unlock an additional benefit. This will provide a significant boost in the upgrade value of the item. The bonus effect can change with each upgrade level though. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased by +3.

Depending on the item's base level and upgrade route, the iLevel of the upgraded item will also change. For example an item upgrader kit upgraded from a rare or unique item to an outstanding one can be expected to gain the Enhanced Defence of the new base item.
